Badgers Basketball vs Oakland Recap
Badgers Score 58 - Oakland 42
The Badgers got off to a sluggish start trailing early, however took the lead 9 to 8 and never looked back from there. The story of the game for the Badgers was stingy defense that held Oakland scoreless for long periods of time. On three seperate occasions the Badgers were able to put together runs of 8 or more points unanswered. In the first half Trevon Hughes was working hard and found success driving to the hoop and from the line, he played well on the defensive end as well with a big steal and block. Hughes led the Badgers scoring on the night with 15 points but on a negative note was sloppy with the ball in the second half. Hughes wasn't the only one with a loose handle as the Badgers again commited far to many turnovers in this game and time has run out to get that problem corrected with stiff competition coming up.
Keaton Nankivil was second in scoring with 13 points as he had some easy follow dunks and drained a three pointer. Keaton looked good in this game overall and also contributed 4 blocked shots and 9 rebounds. Ryan Evans was the first Badger off the bench and it looked to be for good reason as he really seems to bring energy to the defense, he had 7 rebounds and 4 points. On offense Evans is clearly being tentative but has some real explosiveness which he demonstrated when he drove hard through the lane on an attempted dunk over an Oakland defender. Jon Leuer had 12 points and what was most encouraging was his solid defense, he even had 2 blocks in the game.
Jason Bohannon's shot was icy in this game as he was 3 of 10 shooting and finished with 7 points, Jason did have a couple of real pretty drives in the paint that he came just short of finishing with both rolling of the rim. Tim Jarmusz started the game and had only 2 points on 1 of 3 shooting and frankly looked tentative on the offensive end the whole game, this needs to change. Jarred Berggren got in the game for 6 minutes as well and you could almost say his night looked like Jarmusz as he was also very tentative out there. Jordan Taylor played 17 minutes and contributed 3 points, 3 assists and a steal to the effort in which he looked like he needs to gel more with the second team offense. Finally Mike Bruesiwitz decided not to red shirt and saw about a minute and a half worth of action with about five minutes left to get his feet wet.
