The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team lost by a final score of 61-58 against in state rival Marquette. The Badgers were looking good in the first half finishing the half up 33-27, however did not go on a scoring run in the second half instead letting Marquette gain the lead with four minutes to go. Once Marquette got the lead the young Badgers played very poorly on the offensive end. The Badgers looked to try to get three point shots on every pocession instead of trying to get easier baskets despite only being down a few with plenty of time. The long range misses allowed Marquette easy baskets which further increased there lead.
Everyone knew the Badgers would have trouble with the Marquette guard play and Jerel McNeal broke loose for a season high 26 points against them, scoring in a variety of ways. A common troubling theme of this years Badgers team is that they seem to be fouling much more than prior Bo Ryan led teams which always shot more free throws than there opponents, Marquette shot 23 free throws to Wisconsin's 13. Trevon Hughes led the Badgers in scoring with 14. Freshman Rob Wilson seems to be gaining Bo Ryan's confidence as he played 20 minutes and scored 7 points.
