The Wisconsin Badgers finally got there first Big Ten win of the season as they defeated Illinois by a final score of 27-17. While coach Brett Bielema said after the game that the victory is just another game, many of the players thought differently. Dustin Sherer in his second start had a much more solid performance running for a touchdown in the first half from fifteen yards out and throwing two touchdowns to David Gilreath. Sherer finished the day with stats of 12 of 22 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to Sherer letting the game come to him, the Badgers defense which had been abused in the second half the last two weeks held the Illini to there lowest point total of the year. Finally even the punter Brad Nortman averaged 51.7 yards on six punts, which is a major acomplishment given his year long struggles as a freshman.
